2019: unrushed

it’s the middle of January friends, and each year for me that means : sharing my word for the year!!! literally makes me giddy just typing that. this is my SEVENTH YEAR to start the new year off with a word.

it started in 2013 with give, then 2014 was living alive, 2015 was all about receiving, 2016 was gather+be, 2017 was life + laughter, then this last year was the year of paying attention.

so as I “pay attention” to reflect and remember all the things that happened in 2018, I am astonished. it’s amazing what can happen when we are aware, isn’t it?

it’s time to chat about what word we are going for in 2019! are you ready…….

live unrushed.

this is my new motto.  something I am fighting very hard to live by every day.  to truly BE PRESENT and be where I am.  the world we live in is constantly in motion, there are things vying for our attention 24/7.  I have finally been able to admit to myself that I am somewhat addicted to performance, productivity, and connectivity.  it is such a struggle for me to simply sit and be – physically and mentally. so in 2019, I want to do less performing, more unrushing. less proving, more being.

a few thoughts on unrushing:

encourages me to linger

helps me remember to do the things that fire me up

helps me be present with my people

allows me margin to stop and help, talk, be of service to someone

this is me unrishing with Rivers on a Friday. our sabbath. my favorite.

If you do this practice, I want to hear YOUR word of the year . I don’t think there’s a special magical system to discovering your word or words, but I would just encourage you to be still and listen. to pay attention to where you want to shift your focus for this new year. maybe it’s an area you know you need to work on, or maybe it will catch you by surprise. the past two years, my words have come out of the blue. I’m not even sure where I got “unrushed”, but when I read them in a book, hear them on a podcast, or scan over them in my journal – I know it’s meant to be.

if you don’t know your “word” yet, i’ts OK! there’s no rush to figure this out. this is simply an intention for your next year. lean into it, listen well, and then once you know your word: write it down where you will see it and commit to pay attention how you can live that out in 2019!

if you have a word, I’d love to hear it! shoot me an email, or respond to this post! much love!

Hey, I'm Wynne!

Hi, friend! First, I truly am so giddy that you are here. I want you to know I believe in you and all the ways you are growing towards living a more intentional life.  I genuinely hope you are encouraged from our time together here.

A little about me, I’m a type 7 on the enneagram, a total extrovert + people lover, entrepreneur, connector, storyteller, people gatherer, and passionate wife, mama + friend. I feel most alive when I’m exploring new places and surrounded by people I love. Give me a day in the outdoors disconnected from wifi, and I am a happy girl. I run on oat milk lattes, Jesus, gratitude journaling and kitchen dance parties with my four kids.
Welcome, come on in!

let'e be friends

  1. Anna says:

2019 the year I TRANSFIX my eyes on the source of all answers, hope and truth… I so often struggle with wanting to fix things myself, to find the answers on my own, to control what I can’t control. This year with much change in my life I know I will flounder if I don’t fix my eyes in wonder, frozen before the one who can provide and has provided faithfully all I need.

    trans·fix
    /tran(t)sˈfiks/
    verb
    1. cause (someone) to become motionless with horror, wonder, or astonishment.
“he was transfixed by the pain in her face”
synonyms: mesmerize, hypnotize, spellbind, bewitch, captivate, entrance, enthrall, fascinate, absorb, enrapture, grip, hook, rivet, paralyze

“Let us keep our eyes FIXED on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end. He did not give up because of the cross! On the contrary, because of the JOY that was waiting for him, he thought nothing of the disgrace of dying on the cross, and he is now seated at the right side of God’s throne.”

I’m a big music person so this is how I came to find my word.

I cast my mind to Calvary
Where Jesus bled and died for me.
I see His wounds, His hands, His feet.
My Savior on that cursed tree

His body bound and drenched in tears
They laid Him down in Joseph’s tomb.
The entrance sealed by heavy stone
    Messiah still and all alone

O praise the name of the Lord our God
O praise His name forever more
For endless days we will sing Your praise
Oh Lord, oh Lord our God

Then on the third at break of dawn,
The Son of heaven rose again.
O trampled death where is your sting?
The angels roar for Christ the King

O praise the name of the Lord our God
O praise His name forever more
For endless days we will sing Your praise
Oh Lord, oh Lord our God

He shall return in robes of white,
The blazing Son shall pierce the night.
And I will rise among the saints,
My gaze TRANSFIXED on Jesus’ face

O praise the name of the Lord our God
O praise His name forever more
For endless days we will sing Your praise
Oh Lord, oh Lord our God

O praise the name of the Lord our God
O praise His name forever more
For endless days we will sing Your praise
Oh Lord, oh Lord our God
Oh Lord, oh Lord our God

  2. Candence says:

My word of 2019 is INSPIRE, (last year was ABUNDANCE, my first year picking a word). I want to inspire others any positive way I can. In order to do that, I also need to work on myself…be the best version of myself (which I haven’t been in awhile). So by choosing this word I am consciously working on myself and helping others. Inspiring others to dream big believe and build!

  3. Sarah Goldstein Roney says:

My word this year is STEADY. As a mama of six, and two kiddos with special needs, we will all thrive if my husband and I remember to be their steady source of love, comfort and peace.
