simple tips for keeping the clutter away

friends, imagine this…you are in your home and it’s peaceful. You have extra time to play, read, and simply be present because you aren’t spending all your extra time constantly organizing or picking up. Imagine how free your mind, heart, and home will be when there is less clutter and noise. You ready? lets get into the tips.

As moms, we spend a lot of time at home. We are often the managers of all the STUFF that’s brought in. It can get pretty overwhelming if we let it. More stuff = more mental & physical energy to manage it all. When we moved into our new home, I had my best friend Brynn at The Art of Neat come and help me declutter.

Pretty much everything that stayed IN my house had to have these two qualifications :

  1. a function
  2. a place to belong.

We moved into a house TWICE the square footage as our old one, and got rid of probably HALF our stuff.

It changed my life. Not to be dramatic but it really has. It’s made managing the clutter, stuff and stress so much easier to have LESS.

We are almost two years into this new lifestyle, and do I want to share some tips on keeping it up.

Lets take the pantry for example. It’s easy to get so out of control that sometimes the best decision is to start over. I couldn’t find anything I needed & there was clutter in there that no longer had a function (aka expired, old, ew) so this is what I did:

  • took everything out
  • threw away anything that needed to go. I am ruthless with this now. Don’t keep stuff “just because you might need it one day” today is now, so what do you need?
  • reorganize by category so things are easy to find – baking, breakfast, crackers, kids snacks, extras, etc
  • clean while everything is out!
  • put everything back in an organized manner

This is what I’ve learned: if you want to keep this kind of lifestyle of LESS & uncluttered….you have to go through this clean out process more than once or twice a year. Plus, once you start doing this, you will really think twice about buying all the crap you know you’ll just throw away in a month or two 🤣

Here’s your homework!!!!

Set a timer, invite a friend over & do it together (then go to her house!), start small. Start with something non emotional like your kitchen pantry, or your bathroom cabinets. The point is just to START

and please know that if this former pack rat can do it, SO CAN YOU 🙌🏻 the peace of mind is welllllll worth it.

I’d love to see what you are up to! If you post on your instagram stories, I’d love you to tag me @wynneelder !
